A Long Overdue (what else is new?) Season 5 Update!!!

Maybe I’ve said this before, or maybe I haven’t, but I’m not great at setting deadlines, especially when it comes to setting them for myself. If I’m the one coming up with them, then it makes perfect sense that I can change them whenever I want, right? After all, the only one being hurt is me, and that’s a completely healthy way to treat oneself, isn’t it*?

*it isn’t.

Because of this, I also don’t like to give deadlines to other people, since I personally hate the feeling of time crunch pressure, and therefore do not want to spread that to friends of mine, especially when it comes to something as menial as a dumb yet fun podcast project. Of course, the downside of this is delays. Delays, delays, delays, both due to my supposed empathy and blatant laziness, and meanwhile, I’m not putting out content, and in this content-driven universe we’ve all found ourselves in, that’s a big ol’ no no.

I guess I bring this up because A) it’s been a long stretch of silence on this here blog regarding the next season and I wanted to give some kind of excuse for it, and B) that excuse is essentially moot now because I’ve given myself a deadline and set a premiere date:

Yes, come the end of August, the final six regular episodes of Witness if You Will… will begin dropping. Why then? Well, because it’s sooner than later, but mostly because that week, on August 30, it will have been eight years since the very first iteration premiered, as “The Homecoming Queen” debuted as a live stage play at Endgames Improv. So, even though the eighth anniversary isn’t necessarily anything to squawk at (is that a phrase?), it’s still an anniversary, and I’m obviously not going to wait another two years in order to reach the big 1-0. Hell, one of these upcoming episodes began recording at the beginning of July 2024!!! Like, come on, Andy, learn how to churn out shit faster!

Speaking of shit-churning, how has it been going? Well, as of this writing, all but 3/4 of one episode have vocals recorded. That fractioned episode should have its vocals finished in July, and by that time, the remaining five should be close to locked and final if not there entirely. That’s the hope, at least. As I said, recording officially began in July last year— yes, even before the second part of S4 officially began dropping. In fact, A LOT of recording was done before the final three episodes of S4 hit the podwaves. I thought I was doing an amazing job of getting ahead of things. Oh what a fool I was.

This is mostly because, DAMN, these episodes are big. I mean, BIG. And when I say BIG, I guess I don’t mean big in scale, but big in capacity. At least three episodes will be over an hour long, and the amount of sfx and other bells and whistles has proven to be a delightful challenge I’ve found while editing. The episode that’s yet to be fully recorded was mostly saved for last because I predict it will be the most difficult to piece together. Ironically, it’s also likely to be the shortest of the season, if not the second shortest.

Anyways, that’s all I really have for now. No teases this time, because, well, like I said, I’m lazy, and I’ve been staring at my laptop screen pretty much all day and am starting to get a headache and want to finish this up. Maybe there’ll be a post between now and the premiere date, but if not, see you in August. I’m very excited to let these eps out of the box.
